"The ER6Iis an excellent choice for a beginner looking for a noise-isolating earphone. The typical "noise-cancelling" headphone uses electronic circuitry to block sounds ( which can play havoc with music and movie playback clarity), "noise-isolating" earphones such as the ER-6i are essentially earplugs. They are placed deeply into the ear, which forms a complete seal that eliminates ambient sounds. However, "wanted" sounds comes through the integrated ear-speakers.

The er6i make a perfect choice for the busy flyer. The volume can stay at an ear saving level, because outside airport noises are basically eliminated. Just settle back and place the etymotics into your ears, and enjoy the music or movies at a very enjoyable volume. They are wonderfully compact, much more so than my mdr v900, and come with a small travelling case for superior portability.

When all is said and done, a super value,(especially at Amazon), and a super selection for those who don't want to sacrifice good sound for the sake of their budget. If I thought I could get this much sound for well under 100.00, I would have bought them long ago."

I would compare the sound of the er-6i to my Sony MDR7506 headphones. The thing that separates the two is that the Sonys don't block as much ambient noise, and you don't put the speaker inside your ear canal. As a matter of record, The ER6is have much less bass than the Altec Lansing Backbeat Pros or the Sony MDR V700. Budget minded people may like the enhanced bass of the Backbeat Pros in addition to the super low price.

Because I have a hobby revolving around electronic music production, I find that the ER6i are top notch for studio-quality monitoring. I really can appreciate the details in the sounds that the Sony 7506s can't seem to reproduce. Audio professionals will uniformly demand the precision of the Etymotic ER-6I over any earphone in this class!

The Etymotic ER6I produce the finest audio and are the most versatile earphones for portable audio players.

I have owned many, so I should know. Noise isolation is a wonderful revelation, especially in a crowded place like a train. Sound quality beats the socks off most other earbuds or headphones. The exception might be large and bulky noise-canceling over-the-ear headphones, but they are too heavy for wearing them on the move. The er6i work perfectly for exercsing or jogging (won't fall out of your ears). The sound quality is the best for the price!

I've owned mine for over a year, and with very freqent use, they are as good as new. I am thrilled with my er6i earphones, and highly recommend them.
