Despite having upper end features,the er6i is about middle of the road when it comes to price. The sound quality, noise isolation, and comfort are setting the bar awfully high for earphones in the category.
The ER-6i is one of the most popular earphones, and provides top notch sound, robust bass, superb outside noise blocking. It even features an eye catching, iPod-matching, white design. Those features, along with an extremely low price, and when the inevitable occurs and you must replace your ear buds, the er6i should head the list!
While the quality of the sound is impressive, the appeal of the ER-6i is enhanced by it's good looks. Every set has a "space age" looking transparent case, white rubber triple flanges and white cords that are placed in the ears. The flange style earplug is made to eliminate ambient sounds, and help user's appreciate the music's detail.
If flange inserts are not your "thing', then simply go to the foam ear tips which are provided. These ear tips are the subject of alot of strange looks at the club where I exercise. I must be an interesting sight to see!
The ER6I has a set that includes roughly 5 feet of cord, And I really don't think you need that much. The er6i includes a white plastic clip below the Y-joint of the headphones which makes it simple to attach it to your clothing. This is a smart move by Etymotic, as it keeps everything in it's place and prevents the cord from getting fouled up.
The silicone rubber flanges appear a slight bit uncomfortable when you are not accustomed to them. In reality, they are remarkably comfortable and actually slip easily in your ear. (the earbuds that came with my iPod were very uncomfortable, these I really like). The three ribs of silicone rubber do a good job of plugging your ear canals.
The er-6i isolates the sounds inside your head and eliminates ambient sounds. If you are familiar with the active noise cancellation headphones, ( I had a pair of mdr v700 cans, and a pair of MDR7506) you will understand how wonderfully the er-6i eliminate unwanted noise.
In fact, I have to be careful walking in downtown Chicago, because I can't hear the traffic. Now that I wear my er6i earphones all the time, I look twice before crossing the street!
